Articles written by AI will not be accepted.
You will also need to provide us with an up-to-date affiliation and a high-resolution headshot.
We share all our published articles on social media. Let us know your handles for BlueSky and LinkedIn.
Competing interests
You must disclose any competing interests at the time of submission or when commissioned to write for InSight+.
We will publish a declaration of competing interests with the article. Please disclose any relevant author affiliations, including academic appointments, and advise if any of the authors work for, consult, own shares in or receive funding from any company or organisation that would benefit from the submitted article being published. We may decide not to proceed with an article if an author has a relevant competing interest so please let us know before you start writing.
Suggested structure
First 200 words: Describe status of disease/condition in Australia, including Australian statistics on mortality/morbidity, who is affected, the challenges, etc.
Middle 400 words: Your work/research (what you did, how you did it, what you found, strengths and limitations).
Last 300 words: Implications/next steps. What you would like to see from the government/health services. What changes would you like to see? Add your opinion to the topic.
Style
The writing style for InSight+ is more informal than writing for a medical journal — a conversational tone is encouraged. The audience includes working Australian medical doctors.
Checking process
After submission, the authors must be available over email for checking and questions. Authors will be informed within three weeks whether it is provisionally acceptable for publication. When we receive your article, the references will be checked and our medical editor will review it, so please make sure all assertions, bold statements and statistics are referenced with open-access references. Revisions may be required before publication. We may make small editorial suggestions as part of our checking process. Once finalised, it will be published on the InSight+ website, sent to 60,000 Australian medical doctors as part of our weekly InSight+ newsletter and promoted on all MJA social media channels.
