As 2024 draws to a close, the team at Insight+ would like to thank you for your engagement over the past year. Your continued support means a lot to us as we search for the best medical and health stories to keep you informed.
We’d also like to acknowledge the roles you have in health care and what a difference you make to every Australian’s life.
Thank you also to our wonderful contributors. Your perspectives inspire, educate and create meaningful conversations. If you haven’t submitted to InSight+ yet, please consider giving us the opportunity to give you a voice to your fellow doctors about your expertise and areas of passion and interest. We welcome your views and our audience certainly appreciates them. Special mention to former AMA President Professor Steve Robson and Associate Professor Louise Stone for their repeated, valuable and thought-provoking submissions.
Our most popular view of the year was an article written by Professor Steve Robson, Associate Professor Gino Pecoraro and Professor Caroline De Costa. It was called Private maternity hospitals: extinct by the end of this decade? It discussed how the private hospitals are struggling to remain viable post-COVID. It generated quite a few comments including “A sobering summation of the problem. Every doctor should read the article,” from Matthew Scott-Young.
In second place was an article that was part of a four-part series on work-related mental injury in doctors by Professor Leanne Rowe. “Doctors behaving badly ‘on notice’” discussed how Australia lags behind other countries in its responses to sexual harassment in workplaces — 39% of women and 26% of men reported an experience of it in 2020. It also drew comments from our audience including this one from Anonymous “Your post is a clarion call for every doctor and healthcare professional to rise to the occasion. We must embrace our role in driving significant, tangible change, not just in word but in deed.”
It is wonderful for our authors to inspire such worthy praise.
In a year of changes to the social media landscape, the Medical Journal of Australia and InSight+ decided to migrate from what was formerly known as Twitter, X to Bluesky. The new platform is more aligned with the values of our publications. You can find us here.
Lastly, we’d like to say a big thank you to our journalists Caitlin Wright and Becca Whitehead, for their high quality writing and dedication to their craft. Please approach us with any story ideas that we can assign to them to investigate.
We wish you all peaceful, happy holidays and a new year full of blessings.
